Four Alphabet Tests

Test One

To measure the children’s ability to memorise and match from the teaching of the initial sounds

Test Two

To measure the children’s ability to make the connection between what they hear and what they see.

Test Three

To evidence that a child can hear the intiial sound in a word.

Test Four

To evidence that a child can identify the initial sound by producing that sound.

The value of testing.

Fast learners move on; about one third of a class.

Teaching resumes for five or so more sessions and test again; about a third of children move on.

Teaching resumes for the last third of slower learners and the test results are examined.

Identify the deficit in the slower learners.

The tests give reliable information about children’ s learning.
